A busy high street is partially closed for weeks due to roadworks.

UK Power Networks will be conducting work to upgrade their network on Portland Road in Hove, partially closing the road until December 20.

Two-way traffic lights are currently in place between Portland Avenue and Jesmond Road.

These works are part of UK Power Networks’ Fishersgate to Brighton Upgrade Project.

A spokeswoman said: “UK Power Networks is working on a section of Portland Road, Hove, between November 25 and December 20, which will be less intrusive than previously.

“This is part of an ongoing network upgrade to maintain reliable electricity supplies for local homes and businesses.

“Temporary traffic lights will be in place between the junction of Jesmond Road and Portland Avenue, while our team reopens smaller excavations at intervals to pull through cables and connect them to our network.

“We have written to residents and businesses and visited customers on the route to keep them updated and we continue working with the local authority to keep the impact to a minimum.”

Further works are expected in the coming year with ten still in planning across the city.
