The Butterfly Trail is located at the Outernet’s Now building on Tottenham Court Road, London, and provides an immersive, otherworldly experience to audiences through a variety of high resolution, wrap-a-round screens.

Neighboring the busy shopper’s paradise of Covent Garden, London’s Outernet is a must visit for tourists and locals alike.

Found near Soho, and just a fifteen-minute walk from Convent Garden, the Butterfly Trail is a fantastic end to a day trip in London.

It’s combination of creative, high-definition graphics, interactive games and unique methods of display is perfect for art, storytelling and gaming lovers.

With multiple screenings throughout the day, and a walk in/walk out system, you can choose to stay for anywhere between five minutes to half an hour or more.

The Outernet not only displays the magical Butterfly Fly trail but also a range of other short stories and productions, with accompanying illustrations and music by a variety of different artists.

If you are anyone from artists to cinema enthusiasts, visit the Outernet’s now building and experience a range of engaging productions and beautiful displays.

During my visit to the Outernet, I went with the intention of seeing Pixel Artwork’s Butterfly Trail – a fully immersive production following the story of fictional character, Peter Pelegrin - a 19th century explorer in the depths of Peru.

Peter Pelegrin was exploring the cloud forests of Peru in 1852 and during his travels discovered a flock of magical butterflies feeding off the nectar of the mysterious Ousqo tree’s nectar; he took some specimens back to London where he built his mystical glass house and magnificent metamorphosis machine.

Throughout the event, the experience enables viewers to scan and join via smartphones, allowing spectators to interact with the graphics and story.

The unique combination of spatial sound systems creating depth, high-resolution graphics, interactive aspects and storytelling, the Butterfly Trail begins to build a bridge to mass VR and large scale 4D events

During my time at the Outernet, I spoke to 12-year-old Sam, who was visiting London with his family and discovered the Butterfly Trail through social media.

He described the event as “very bright and colorful”, and, upon being asked if he would recommend to friends, he said, “definitely, it feels like you’re inside an Xbox!”

Personally, I enjoyed the experience and thought it was a creative way to display different styles of artistry and storytelling whilst transporting viewers to a magical surreal world.

I especially liked how the use of sound and depth in the graphics make you feel as though you are moving with the story and experiencing the world you’re being entranced in.

While the event runs throughout the day, I would definitely recommend visiting during the evening/night as the dark further accentuates the realism and immersive aspects.

The Butterfly Trail is a must see for anyone planning a trip to London or the surrounding area. Pack your camera and bring friends to this otherworldly, ethereal experience in the heart of London.
