More than 1,000 objections have been submitted against plans for 190 homes to be built on farmland.

Residents are up in arms over the proposals for the homes and a community development on farmland near Bewley Road in Angmering, submitted by Gleeson Land to Arun District Council in August.

Protect Farmland West Of Bewley Road, a group of neighbours, has been leading the charge against the developer.

Lucy Todd, a member of the group, told The Argus: “In Angmering, we are overwhelmed with developments.

“We moved to the village nine years ago and it has got progressively harder to get an appointment or even just speak to someone on the phone.

“A lot of residents are a bit sick of it and we feel like we have had more than our fair share of developments.”

In August, the group staged a protest on the proposed site for the development, attended by Worthing West MP Beccy Cooper.

She called the plans “inappropriate” and said they do not “bring enough benefits to outweigh the harm on the landscape and character of Angmering”.

She added: “I think Angmering has grown by 40 per cent in a very short amount of time.

“As a Labour MP, I am pro-house building. We need to do it in a mindful way and make sure wherever we’re living, there is the infrastructure we need and that we have good homes and good sustainable green communities.

“I was elected to deliver affordable, sustainable and healthy communities that address our real housing needs. This development does not meet that test.”

In August, a spokeswoman for the council said: "Arun District Council will consider each planning application on its own merits and take into account the development plan, the National Planning Policy Framework and relevant material considerations when determining planning applications.”

At present, a decision is due by Friday.
