Unearthly figures brandishing flames, effigies of political figures and firework-lit skies marked another eventful bonfire season.

As celebrations come to a close in Sussex we’ve collated some of the best photographs from our camera club.

From Newick to Lindfield, Shoreham to Hastings and of course in Lewes, thousands turned out to see the spectacular parades and displays put on by various societies.

Large crowds could be seen craning their necks to watch the beautiful pyrotechnics.

The tradition, which has been going since 1795, celebrates the bungling of the infamous Gunpowder Plot as well commemorating the 17 protestant martyrs from the town who burned at the stake for their faith during the Marian persecutions.

This year saw effigies including Nigel Farage and former Post Office chief executive Paula Vennells.
