A man travelling without a ticket attacked a train worker.

The incident occurred between West Worthing and Worthing railway station when a man became aggressive towards the member of staff.

He then threw a closed can at him and damaged his glasses.

Officers are looking to speak to the man pictured as they believe he could help with their enquiries.

Samantha Facey, Govia Thameslink Railway’s health, safety and security director said: “We condemn this deplorable attack on one of our staff members.

“Any form of physical or verbal abuse towards our staff and customers will not be tolerated. They have the right to work and travel in safety.  

“We work very closely with the British Transport Police in our shared goal to reduce assaults and antisocial behaviour across the railway network.  

“Anyone who witnessed the incident, or recognises the man in the picture, should contact the British Transport Police.” 

A spokesman for British Transport Police said: “Anyone who recognises him is asked to contact BTP by texting 61016 or by calling 0800 40 50 40, quoting reference 459 of 9 October.

“Alternatively, you can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
