Lewes is a famous place to go for one of best bonfire nights around but make sure you are careful and stay safe. Below are a few tips to keep in mind when organising next year’s trip:
- Make sure to pack ear plugs or ear defenders and even safety glasses if possible; things get really loud in the processions as bird scaring bangers are used!
- Create a plan of where you are going and when; don’t get too lost in a small town at night and miss out on the awesome action taking place.
- If you are planning on watching the fireworks do not forget to book your tickets for the specific bonfire society’s firework show you want to see. They are all amazing and really worth your money.
- Plan how you are getting in and out of the town as well as where you are going to sleep if you stay overnight because Lewes gets shut off from the rest of the country; this does include trains, cars, and also buses!
- Wrap up really warm and take a lot of snacks. You will be cold if you aren’t prepared enough and that can dampen your enjoyment of the whole night. Snacks are also vital to keeping your energies high.
Bonfire night in Lewes is at another level to the normal celebrations, as most of the community are part of a bonfire society which base themselves in different parts of Lewes.
There are seven bonfire societies and most of them were around in the 19th century! Each society have different colours they wear and dress up as making the whole night extremely special.
This year’s celebration was incredible, enjoyable and completely awesome. Recommended if you love fun, fire and of course spectacular bonfires and firework displays. Do not miss out!!
