Emergency services are responding to a serious crash on an A-road. 

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service have advised motorists to avoid the A259 Marsh Road, near Pevensey.

The fire service has reported that it rescued passengers from two vehicles following the incident, which occurred at around 11.26am today. 

Three people are now in the care of the ambulance service.

Sussex Police said that the road is likely to remain closed until the early evening. 

A spokesman for the force said: "We are currently responding to a serious two-vehicle collision on the A259 at Hooe.

"The road has been closed in both directions between Pevensey Roundabout and Little Common Roundabout as emergency services work at the scene, and is likely to remain closed until at least the early evening.

"We would advise motorists to seek alternative routes in the meantime. Thank you for your understanding.

"Anyone who witnessed the collision or captured any relevant footage is asked to email collision.appeal@sussex.police.uk quoting serial 442 of 07/11."

A spokesman for East Sussex Fire and Rescue said: "Crews are currently working to extricate casualties from the two vehicles involved.

"Police and ambulance are also in attendance.

"Please avoid the area."
