A primary school has opened a new support centre for children, with help from a garden centre.

Haskins Roundstone Garden Centre, in Angmering, has partnered with St Margaret's Primary to help launch the Tomlin Centre, which opened on October 14.

The garden centre has chosen St Margaret's as its School of Choice in the community and has donated materials for an outdoor garden at the new centre.

This garden provides a sensory space where pupils can take part in planting projects.

The children will maintain the garden using the materials supplied by Haskins, including decorative planters, plants, seeds, growing sacks, compost, canes and vegetable plants.

Headteacher Michael Jee said: "We’re very grateful for Haskins’ support at St Margaret's, specifically with the launch of the Tomlin Centre.

"It’s been brilliant to witness how beneficial the outdoor garden has already been.

"The different smells and textures of the garden provide our pupils with lots of sensory input and a great sense of pride as they watch their produce grow."

St Margaret's currently has six staff working at The Tomlin Centre who will assist 12 children with social and communication differences.

Haskins Roundstone will continue to support St Margaret's, with plans already underway for the festive period.
