The Salvation Army has launched its Christmas Present Appeal in Horsham.

The church and charity is asking the community to donate new toys to help families who will struggle financially this festive season.

Last year, the appeal aided 334 families, equating to 1,211 individuals, and it is feared more will require help this year.

Lieutenant Rachel Abbott, the Salvation Army church leader, said: "The Salvation Army’s present appeal is an opportunity for people in our communities to embrace the spirit of Christmas and give to families and individuals who have very little."

The Booth Way church in Horsham will accept donations of new unwrapped toys, toiletry sets, and money for gift cards and supermarket vouchers until December 6.

The Salvation Army collaborates with schools and social services to distribute gifts to those in need.

It is requested these gifts must be new and can include educational toys, books, sports equipment, toiletries, and board games.

Lieutenant Abbott added: "I want to say thank you in advance for your generosity and support this year."

The Salvation Army will also host community events at their hall, including a Christmas fair on November 23 and a carol-singing event on Christmas Eve.
