A business owner who has been restoring cars for more than a decade is set to show his latest project – a hot pink Barbie-themed classic Aston Martin.

David Pearce-Martin has spent the last eight months restoring the Aston Martin DB6 after it was wrecked in a rally car crash in Mexico.

Now David is about to show the finished product in its bright-pink glory at a classic car show in Birmingham this weekend.

David, who has works on cars since he was 17, said: “I think the purists won’t like it but I don’t take it too seriously.

“Working on the car is a dream come true. I believe it’s the only one of the car in that colour.

“It was interesting when we sprayed it for the first time – at first I thought ‘what on earth have we done?’ but the car pulls it off.

“When you do this you become one with the car."

David, 31, who restores cars through his company DPM Autobody in Berwick near Polegate, started his own business at the age of 21.

He said he did not initially want to work with classic cars but slowly fell in love with the process of restoring them to their former glory.

David picked up the DB6 after it crashed in the Carrera Panamericana rally in 2022.

He started working on it in May last year, stripping away all the damaged parts.

Some parts were no longer available so he had to make them from scratch, including a new door.

After completing the restoration, David said he jokingly suggested to the owner that they should paint the car pink – and the owner agreed.

David hopes it will prove a big hit following the release of the Barbie movie last year.

The pink car will be on display at the NEC Classic Car Show in Birmingham this weekend.
