Veterans have come together to lay the first crosses ahead of Remembrance Sunday.

Former soldiers from across Worthing joined mayor Ibsha Choudhury to open the Field of Remembrance beside the town’s war memorial.

The group laid the first crosses to remember those who died in the First and Second World Wars and other global conflicts ahead of Remembrance Sunday this weekend.

Veterans joined Cllr Choudhury to open the Field of Remembrance which stands next to Worthing War Memorial in Chapel Road.

The event included a minute’s silence ahead of further remembrance events later this week.

Towns and cities in Sussex will stop to remember those who gave their lives on Remembrance Sunday, November 10.

More events are due to be held on Remembrance Day on November 11.

The day is marked nationwide on the anniversary of the end of the First World War at 11am on November 11, 1918.

Events will be held at Brighton’s War Memorial in Old Steine as well as ceremonies in Hove, Portslade and Rottingdean.
