Parts of Sussex could have up to four centimetres of snow later this month.

Long-term weather forecasts suggest that a section of the county could be hit with wintry weather in the middle of November amid a cold snap across the UK.

Weather maps suggest the north of the county is set to be affected with more flurries across East Sussex.

Brighton, Worthing and other towns south of the South Downs are not expected to be affected.

A long-term weather forecast by WXCharts using data from Met Desk shows around 4cm of snow falling in Crawley, Haywards Heath and northern parts of Sussex in the early hours of Tuesday, November 19, into the following day.

The snow will peak at around 5cm in Crawley and Gatwick.

The forecast also suggests that, while Eastbourne and parts of East Sussex could feel the brunt of the forecast, Brighton and parts of south west Sussex should not expect any snow.

Temperatures in Sussex would plummet to near freezing, the forecast data suggests.

The long-range forecast by WXCharts is yet to be confirmed by the Met Office and is subject to change.

WXCharts previously predicted that Sussex would be hit by snow in February.

It comes as a cold belt of weather is expected to come south through the centre of the UK, affecting Manchester, Birmingham and other cities in the North and the Midlands.
