A sewage pipe has burst in a residential area.

Southern Water are currently dealing with a sewage pipe which has burst in Victoria Road in Shoreham.

Pictures show 38 tankers controlling the sewage spill and acting as a temporary fix for the damaged pipe.

The water company believes that works will be ongoing until the end of next week.

A spokesman for Southern Water said: “We’re sorry for the disruption and noise our teams are causing around Victoria Road, Shoreham.

"We’re working as quickly as is safe on a burst sewer main.

"We are digging now and will be using 18 metres of polymer liner to repair the pipe.

"Because there’s been a recent burst nearby previously, we’re also escalating this to our planned engineering and construction team to investigate and scope a project to ensure this doesn’t happen again.

"We are using 38 tankers to manage flows protecting the environment and allowing customers to use their facilities as normal – we know this is noisy but we must do this until the burst is fixed.

"By acting quickly, we were able to control the flows and prevent damage to the environment.

"There’s also three way traffic lights in use so our tankers can fill up at our Ropetackle pumping station.

"Our customer team has been in the area today talking to residents and we’ve also been talking to the local councillors.

"We can’t give a firm deadline for completing our work as the unexpected can always happen but we should be finished by the end of the week and will keep everyone informed.”
