Four people suffered serious burns in the toilets of a fast food restaurant in an incident on Halloween night.

Wendy's in Brighton's Western Road was cordoned off into the evening after four people suffered the burns in the restaurants toilets.

Four people were taken to hospital following the incident. They remain in a serious but stable condition.

Sussex Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident, which took place at around 8.30pm last night.

A spokesman for Sussex Police: "It was reported that four people sustained burns following an incident in the restaurant’s toilet area.

"Although their injuries are considered serious, they remain in a stable condition and have been taken to hospital for treatment.

"A temporary road closure was implemented in Western Road to allow emergency vehicles to attend the scene. This has since been lifted.

"Police presence is currently enhanced in the area, and we ask anyone who witnessed the incident or who has information to report it online, or by calling 101 quoting reference 1241 of 31/10."

A spokeswoman for East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said they were called to tackle a fire in the fast food restaurant.

The American burger chain first opened in Brighton in March 2022.

Wendy's has been approached for comment.
