A family-owned bakery has been hailed as one of the best in the country as it won a national award.
Open Bakery in St George’s Road in Kemp Town and West Drive in Queen’s Park, Brighton, has been recognised as the best in the South East in this year’s National Bakery Awards.
The bakery thanked its customers, saying it was “over the moon” after it was applauded for its fresh breads, pastries and patisserie items.
Taking to social media, it said: "A big thank you to all our wonderful customers that make all the early mornings worthwhile."
It added that it would be targeting the national award in 2025.
Open Bakery was named the best in East Sussex earlier in the year, with Flour Pot Bakery named the best in West Sussex.
Open Bakery opened in Kemp Town in 2011. It branched off from Real Patisserie and has since been creating its own items and hosting baking workshops.
It “takes sustainability seriously”, sourcing ingredients locally and “making use of the wonderful local growers and producers around Brighton and Sussex”.
