A group of rescue dogs have taken part in a spooky photoshoot ahead of “Howl-oween”.

Just like pumpkins, Dogs Trust Shoreham residents Belle, Harvey, Peppy, Sooty and Woody hope they too will soon be picked and taken to a new home.

“Lovable” lady Belle is an eight-year-old French bulldog who enjoys spending time with people but can be timid at first and prefers to build up a bond at her own pace.

The foodie likes to bond through training or relaxing with someone on the sofa rather than getting lots of tactile fuss.

BelleBelle (Image: Dogs Trust Shoreham) She finds it challenging when people come too close when she is eating and the Dogs Trust team feel she would be best suited to a family where the youngest members are in their late teens and understand that she’ll need her space occasionally.

Belle is sociable when it comes to mixing with other dogs and would enjoy walking with other calm-natured canines, although she will need to be the only pet at home.

She will need a family who are always around at home to keep her company in the initial stages, before gradually building up the times they leave her.

Sooty is a sweet chihuahua Pomeranian cross who is looking for a fresh start. He is a gentle soul who adores the company of his favourite people and is eager to build a bond with his new owners.

Sooty has been at Dogs Trust Shoreham since April 2023 since his owner died. He absolutely loves to travel in the car and take long walks, despite his little legs. He likes to burrow and snooze under his blankets and is not a fan of being woken from his slumber.

SootySooty (Image: Dogs Trust Shoreham) The seven-year-old would thrive in a home with children aged 16 and over and as the only pet, as he enjoys being the centre of attention. He enjoys quieter walks as he is underconfident when it comes to meeting new dogs, although he has been known to play with some four-legged friends.

Terrier Patterdale cross Peppy has been described as a “one-of-a-kind pooch” who has an abundance of character.

His perfect home would be an adult-only family with minimal visitors and no visiting children, who share his passion for the outdoors, and who have the time, as well as the desire, to continue working with him on his training.

PeppyPeppy (Image: Dogs Trust Shoreham) He would love a home in a quieter location, away from built-up areas. A secure garden of his own is essential as well a multi-carer household, so that there is always someone around to keep him company as he finds alone-time challenging.

Dogs Trust says Woody is the most intelligent dog they have worked with.

The poodle miniature cross originally came into the charity’s care due to showing aggression around handling and resources.

He has since had training to help manage these behaviours.

A separate area of the home where he can go to eat meals, or when relaxing, is essential, the trust said.

The ten-year-old needs an adult-only home, with patient adopters who can make multiple visits to the rehoming centre until they have bonded with Woody and learnt about his training plans.

Woody will need to be the only dog at home and is unable to live with any cats, house rabbits or guinea pigs.

He will also require his new family to be on board with grooming him themselves, a garden and a multi-carer household.

He also has some medical needs, which could mean additional costs.
