Parking systems in two seaside towns are set to be upgraded, the council says – but prices are also set to go up.
Arun District Council says it is moving away from parking discs in Littlehampton and Bognor in favour of a new digital app.
Rather than needing two separate discs in the two towns, residents will now be able to park in both areas using a single, virtual disc on the app.
But the council confirmed the discs would also double in price – from £3 for the year to £6.
Councillor Sue Wallsgrove, chairwoman of Arun District Council's environment committee said: “We believe that having a virtual disc to make parking easier as well as a physical disc, meets everyone’s needs.

“Yes, we know there is an increase in cost, but the virtual discs cost the equivalent of just under 34p per month, and the physical disc just 50p per month, for two hours parking every single day.
“We believe this is still excellent value and supports people visiting our town centres for minimal cost.
“These enhancements are the result of valuable feedback from local residents, businesses and visitors, ensuring we’re meeting your needs.”
A spokeswoman for Arun District Council said the changes would come into effect from the new year. The disc will allow residents two hours parking once a day in six council-run car parks – three in Bognor and three in Littlehampton.
Physical discs will also still be available to buy from retailers in the two towns as well as the Littlehampton Civic Centre and Bognor Town Hall.
The discs are available to both residents and non-residents of Littlehampton and Bognor.
In January of this year Arun District Council launched its two hour free parking scheme in Littlehampton using a mixture of cardboard and virtual discs.
The virtual discs can be activated through a phone application and would show a countdown on the user’s lock screen showing how much parking they had left.
New discs are currently unavailable to buy but will be released in the near future.
