A “void” that opened up in a road has been temporarily plugged.

West Sussex Highways said its staff have undertaken temporary repairs on the sinkhole in Mill Road, Worthing, which appeared on October 17.

A spokesman said: “A permanent repair is being scheduled to take place at the earliest available opportunity.

“On Friday evening the site was also attended to by Southern Gas Networks upon a gas escape.

“Repairs took place that evening to capture and repair the escape.  Southern Gas Network will be undertaking full repairs within the next 24 hours and the lights should be removed from site.”
