Work on a new special needs school is set to be completed next summer after the contractor behind the project went into administration.

Woodlands Meed in Burgess Hill has faced a number of setbacks since work started in 2021 then contractor ISG went into administration last month.

Now West Sussex County Council says work on the school will be completed in summer 2025 after it found a contractor to take on the job.

A council spokesman said the most urgent outstanding work on the college would be finished in the October half term but nothing else would be completed until the summer holidays.

The council said: “The second phase of works was the main focus of ISG when the administrator was appointed. We are currently scoping the works to confirm what needs to be completed.

“We are looking at two options to move forward: engaging with a contractor which already has a good track record with us or using an existing framework.”

Woodlands Meed was due to be ready in August 2023 but opened a year later than planned, in time for the start of the current school year.

The new school includes a hydrotherapy pool, outside learning and play areas and an outside gym.

ISG collapsed into administration on September 20, leading to 2,400 redundancies across the UK.
