Work is about to start on a multi-million pound redevelopment which is hoped will transform primary healthcare in a town.
The Newhaven Square project will create a new Health and Wellbeing Hub in the town. It will be home to Quayside Medical Practice, the Chapel Street Surgery, the Primary Care Network, a new pharmacy, the expansion of Wave Active at Seahaven Swim and Fitness and its partnership with healthcare to support those with health conditions and the rehabilitation of patients.
A creative hub will also be developed to provide space for co-working and start-up businesses.
Councillor Zoe Nicholson, leader of Lewes District Council, said: “It is fantastic that work is starting on this landmark project which will be transformational for people in Newhaven, improving lives for years to come.
"Located in the centre of Newhaven, it will also create jobs, encourage more shoppers into the town, support businesses to grow and increase the overall appeal of the area to visit.”
The project, with building firm Buxton as the main contractor, is scheduled to be completed within two years.
The fourth floor of Dacre Road Car Park has been re-opened, making a further 51 spaces available.
As part of the works, the footpath ramp from Chapel Street to 5 Newhaven Square (Former Peacocks) will be closed to the public.
This closure will be in force from Monday, November 4. Alternative accessible routes will be signposted.
