Plans have been revealed for a new festive fair in the city centre.
Brighton Winter Fayre will take place in St Peter’s Square from December 5 until Christmas Eve.
Visitors can expect a market, grotto, makers market, workshops and much more.
There will be covered entertainment spaces and workshops and a central hub showcasing food and drink from local producers.
Entertainment includes A Very Merry Bezzmas on December 6 with the Happy Mondays’s maraca-shaking musician and Barrioke with former Eastenders star Shaun Williamson on December 15.
Three event professionals who have 30 years of experience managing events in the city have united to make the new offering a reality.
The fair’s website says: “Join us over three long weekends in December for a cool mix of creative workshops, live performances, music nights, cabaret, makers market and festive entertainment - all delivered with a unique Brighton twist. From daytime adventures for kiddos and families to after-work drinks and nights out for grown-ups, we’ve got it all.
“As the sun sets, dive into our Winter Nights programme with an electric line-up of live shows, music, DJs and cabaret that’ll keep the festive vibes flowing.
“The main square will host local street food traders serving mouthwatering savoury dishes and sweet treats, plus a café and a licensed bar offering tasty local drinks.”
Last year there was no Christmas market in Brighton after Brighton and Hove City Council failed to organise a replacement in time.
Organisers of 2022’s lacklustre festive market E3 Events pulled out of a contract one year early, citing difficulties including supply chain problems, the effects of the pandemic and rising costs.
Councillor Mitchie Alexander, acting cabinet member for culture, heritage and tourism, spoke of her excitement at the scheme for this year.
“We can confirm there will be a full programme of festive events taking place in the city this December,” she said.
“We’re really excited at the organiser’s plans for the winter fayre and love that it will focus on local producers, local entertainers and have the local community at its heart.
“The fayre at St Peter’s Square is taking place over three long weekends in the lead-up to Christmas and will include family activities, live shows, cabaret, food and drink, music, DJs, creative workshops and makers markets.
“The winter fayre will really highlight our city’s reputation for being creative, inclusive and vibrant.”
Entry to the fair is free but there are ticketed events.
