Plans for a sports hub in a village are moving forward.

Arun District Council is preparing to submit a planning application for a sports hub in Angmering, Palmer Road.

The sports hub is set to include a community building, a 3g all-weather pitch with floodlights, eight grass football pitches, an artificial turf cricket wicket, a multi-use games area, a new play area and outdoor gym equipment.

A public consultation on the council’s designs, which ran from July until August, received over 200 responses.

Now, the council has altered the plans in a bid to address residents’ concerns.

The council said the main issues that have been addressed are noise and light pollution, additional traffic and the impact on dog walkers and surrounding wildlife. Changes and additions to the plans include downward lighting, an increase to the availability of public open space and the conducting of ecological surveys.

A report will now be presented to the policy and finance committee on October 24 to present the revised plans. The committee will be asked to back the plans and look to submit a planning application.

The sports hub would be built on Palmer Road recreation ground and would change its current facilities, which include a sports pavilion, grass football pitches, a cricket wicket and a play area.
