A new “community driven” independent clothes store has opened in the city centre.

Scamp and Dude, founded in 2016, has filled Oliver Bonas’s old lot in North Street, Brighton, with a vibrant and colourful space.

It is the brand’s seventh store in the UK and the fourth to open this year, promising “a fun and uplifting shopping experience”.

Staff opened the doors to keen shoppers queuing in the rain this morning.

“Jo, our founder, was here to cut the ribbon. We just have such a community.

“This is what Scamp and Dude is all about. The fun and vibrancy matches Brighton, we couldn’t be happier that we are here.”

Not only does the business pride itself on its fashionable clothes, but also its status as a “force for good”.

It runs a number of charitable programmes, including its #SuperScarfMission, where for every scarf sold, another is donated to a woman with cancer. So far, 51,000 scarves have been donated to over 250 hospital partners.

Scamp and Dude founder and CEO Jo Tutchener Sharp started the business after being separated from her children while undergoing life-saving brain surgery, creating the desire to want to give back and support children who are apart from loved ones.

She said: “We are thrilled to be opening our next retail store in Brighton.

“It’s such a welcoming and vibrant city which perfectly aligns with Scamp and Dude and we can’t wait to welcome our loyal community to our new home.”
