Sir Lenny Henry is coming to Brighton to celebrate the release of his latest book.

School children will meet the comedy star at Afrori Books, a shop in North Road said to boast “the biggest selection of books by black authors in the country” tomorrow, Monday, October 14.

The writer published Tyrone’s Cool Crown at the end of August. The book follows young boy Tyrone as he overcomes his fear of getting his hair cut.

As part of the event, children, parents and carers will attend a sold-out workshop on managing and making the most out of afro hair, led by LUSH.

The event will also be attended by illustrator Salomey Doku, who will be conducting live drawing sessions and explaining how she makes characters come to life.

“The story about Tyrone’s fear of visiting the barber shop is very close to my heart, and it carries a powerful message for children and adults alike.

“How brilliant that we’re able to celebrate with a special hair care workshop at Afrori Books too.”

Illustrator Salomey Doku said: “In Tyrone's Cool Crown, Grandad Cleveland tells Tyrone about all of the different hairstyles that there are.

“I had so much fun drawing the various characters in the book and the types of cuts they have.

Carolynn Bain, owner of Afrori Books, said: “Afrori Books is excited to partner with Sir Lenny, Macmillan Children’s Books and LUSH to celebrate black hair.

“This event is all about ensuring that children with afro and textured hair love their crowns, just like Tyrone, and that everyone celebrates the beauty of black hair.

“We know that when children and the wider public see this kind of representation, it truly makes a difference.”

The event starts at 1.30pm and places can be booked on the afroribooks.co.uk website.
