More men have been arrested after half-a-tonne of cocaine was found in a rubber dinghy near a seaside caravan camp.

The drugs haul - believed to be worth £40 million - was found at Medmerry beach, near Chichester in August.

Police in Sussex and Hampshire arrested five men within hours. 

The National Crime Agency has now revealed another six men have been arrested in connection with the find.

The men were arrested across England, the NCA said.

A 39-year-old was arrested in Liverpool on Monday and other arrests were made at Luton Airport, Peterborough, Bournemouth, Poole and Tilbury in Essex on Wednesday.

The drugs were found hidden in a rigid-hulled inflatable boat (RHIB) at Medmerry Beach, near Selsey, West Sussex on Monday, August 19 this year.

The beach is close to a large caravan holiday park.

"The men were arrested in locations across England in a National Crime Agency investigation," a spokesman said.

The full details of the arrests are:

  • A 39-year-old man arrested at Luton Airport
  • A 39-year-old was arrested in Liverpool
  • A 38-year-old arrested in Peterborough
  • A 45-year-old in Bournemouth
  • A 41-year-old in Poole
  • A 36-year-old in Tilbury, Essex

All the men have been released on bail.
