A man drove towards three men and approached them wielding a hammer.
The incident in The Twitten, Southwick, happened on September 24 between 6.30pm and 9pm.
The three men then assaulted the man and fled the area.
A 23-year-old man from Lancing has been arrested for attempted grievous bodily harm and possession of a weapon in public.

He has now been released on bail pending further enquiries.
A spokesman for Sussex Police said: “Officers are particularly looking to speak with the three men involved in the incident, and believe they can help with the investigation.
“Witnesses or anyone with any information is asked to contact police online or call 101 quoting serial 1517 of 24/09.”
