A horse which found itself in a precarious position is said to be recovering well from its ordeal.
Firefighters came to the rescue of 35-year-old Trio, who was trapped between a concrete block and a fence at a farm in Coldwaltham, near Pulborough.
It was saved from the ditch employing the use of a crane under the watchful eye of a vet on Monday, September 30.
A spokesman for West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said: "The team worked with a local vet to bring the horse to safety using specialist animal rescue equipment.
"Trio was given a precautionary checkover by the vet and fortunately he swiftly recovered from the ordeal."
