An apartment building with four flats could be knocked down to make way for a new block.

Developers want to demolish Alfa Court on the A259 South Coast Road in Telscombe Cliffs, near Peacehaven, and build a new block of nine flats.

In plans submitted to Lewes District Council, developers C and L Dwyer-Smith said the plans are "to demolish the existing building and garages, making way to provide a replacement building of higher quality, offering a superior utilisation of the available space".

"The building would provide an increased unit provision assisting with housing demand in the area," said Darby Architectural, on behalf of the developer.

The existing building has four three-bedroom flats, but developers said the new block would have one one-bedroom studio flat, five two-bedroom flats and three three-bedroom flats.

The proposal would provide parking at the back of the new building for eight vehicles, as well as 20 bike spaces and rubbish and recycling storage.

Darby Architectural said: "The scheme takes cues from local buildings in both form and material.

"The building is to be finished in a contemporary material palette, consisting of smooth render and areas of cladding.

"It is envisaged that the building would be finished in a colour palette to mimic the recently constructed building opposite."
