People living in a riverside village have been urged to "act now" as homes are being flooded.
The Environment Agency (EA) has issued a flood warning for Alfriston as the Cuckmere River is high and rising after half a month's rain, 30mm, fell on Monday morning.
The EA said from 3am today flooding has been affecting fields, rural roads, gardens, and a small number of properties, including The Old Clergy House and properties near Willows Car Park on North Street.
Flooding will be close to properties on River Lane and Deans Place Hotel, Alfriston, the EA said.
The river should begin to fall by 12 noon today and should return to normal by midday on Wednesday.

An EA spokeswoman said: "We believe river levels could rise a little higher than they were on Saturday. Flood impacts should begin to slowly ease when river levels start to fall. Flood water can be deep and dangerous, please take care if walking near the river in Alfriston. Please plan to avoid driving on routes vulnerable to flooding, including North Street. We continue to monitor the levels and forecast."
As well as the flood warning, there are flood alerts in place across Sussex meaning flooding is possible and people should be prepared.
Flood alerts
- The River Rother in Roberstbridge
- The Cuckmere River in Upper Dicker and Hellingly
- Climping seafront
Motorists are reminded to avoid driving on routes where flooding is possible.
Only isolated showers are forecast for the rest of the week, the EA said.
