A charity is looking for drivers to help elderly people get to their doctor’s appointments.

The Royal Voluntary Service in Worthing and Lancing needs people to ferry people to help medical appointments and other events to help them keep connected with others.

The charity said nearly half of over-70s who do not drive have missed doctor’s appointments.

Paul Goff, service manager for the charity, said: “Our volunteer drivers play a vital role in counteracting these effects, offering not just transport but a crucial connection to the community.

“We're urging locals to join our volunteer teams in Lancing and Worthing. Just a few hours of your time could make a world of difference to the health and happiness of the person in your passenger seat.”

The charity is looking to recruit 18 volunteer drivers for its services at the Chesham House community centre in Lancing and its services in the wider Adur and Worthing area.

Volunteers can sign up to help the charity on its website.
