A man has been charged with supplying crack cocaine and heroin in a city centre neighbourhood.

Muhammed Ahmed, 40, is also charged with possession of a Class A drug and an offensive weapon in a private place.

It follows reports of issues with drug dealing in the Regency area of Brighton.

A spokeswoman for Sussex Police said that Ahmed, of no fixed address, was arrested on May 10 and bailed pending further enquiries.

He was re-arrested on September 19 and charged with being concerned in the supply of heroin and crack cocaine, possession of a Class A drug and possession of an offensive weapon.

He appeared at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on September 16 and has been remanded in custody pending his next court appearance.

Detective Constable Gavin Harper said: "Drug misuse doesn’t just affect those directly involved, it can have a damaging impact on entire neighbourhoods, leading to crime, anti-social behaviour, and undermining the wellbeing of local residents.

“If you witness drug activity, you should make a report to police."

Ahmed will appear at a court to be determined on October 18.
