A sustainable energy services co-operative has been nominated for a national award.
Brighton and Hove Energy Services Cooperative (BHESCo) is in the running for this year’s British Chamber of Commerce Business Awards.
BHESCo was founded in 2012 by CEO Kayla Ente and aims to help homeowners and businesses transition to energy efficient buildings powered by local renewable energy.
It raised more than £1 million in investments from community investors in 2020.
In July it was named Planet Saver business of the year at the 2024 Sussex Chamber of Commerce Awards.
It has now been shortlisted for the nationwide British Chamber of Commerce Green Innovation award.

BHESCo has completed 63 community-financed energy projects since 2015, which are estimated to have collectively saved customers £3.7 million on energy costs.
Kayla said: “Being shortlisted for such a prestigious means so much to the whole BHESCo team.
“We work so hard to secure the best outcome for the residents and businesses of Brighton and Hov, and receiving recognition like this provides a tremendous boost. We believe wholeheartedly in our business and look forward to taking it mainstream.”
The Chamber Business Awards national winners will be announced in October and the "winner of winners" will be revealed at the London Stock Exchange on November 20.
