A Brighton MP was given Taylor Swift tickets with hospitality worth over £1,000.

Chris Ward, newly elected MP for Brighton Kemptown and Peacehaven, received the £1,660 gift from the Premier League for Swift’s highly sought-after Eras tour concert on August 20 at Wembley Stadium.

Mr Ward, who recently gave an interview to The Argus about constituents’ struggles with housing, said: “All donations are registered in line with parliamentary rules and procedures.”

The register of members' financial interests also showed the former aide and speechwriter to Prime Minister Keir Starmer had received a final payment for accrued holiday from his previous role as public affairs director of Hanbury Strategy, to the total of £2,634.10 on July 31.

It comes amid Labour’s continued freebies furore following the revelation that Sir Keir and his wife Lady Victoria Starmer had accepted gifts, including clothing and concert tickets, worth more than £100,000 since 2019.

This was more than any other MP.

The beginning of the party’s annual conference in Liverpool has been overshadowed by the row.

Sir Keir, who also received free Taylor Swift tickets and hospitality worth £4,000, maintains he has followed all the rules on accepting donations.

In recent weeks the Prime Minister, an avid Arsenal fan, has also come under pressure for accepting more than £35,000 of free football tickets over the last Parliament.

Although he is an Arsenal season ticket holder, Sir Keir told the BBC on Thursday that security concerns meant he could no longer watch games from the stands without a large and expensive police presence.

He is far from the only MP to have received freebies over the past year, with more than 70 current MPs from across the political spectrum listing free tickets to sporting events in their registers of interests.

MPs in Sussex received more than £800,000 in publicly declared donations in the run-up to the General Election.

As previously reported in The Argus, Brighton and Hove MPs Peter Kyle and Sian Berry received among the highest donations in the county, both receiving nearly £175,000.

Mr Kyle, MP for Hove and Portslade and now Science, Innovation and Technology Secretary, received £66,560 from digital consultancy firm Public Digital.

The money paid for a person to be seconded to work with Mr Kyle in his previous role in the Shadow Cabinet prior to the election.

Mr Kyle also received £50,000 from Simon Ruddick, chairman of investment advisory firm Albourne Partners.

He also attended the Brit Awards and a Madonna concert with the Football Association and Sky Arts respectively.

Ms Berry's biggest donors included Matthew Oakeshott, who also backed her predecessor Caroline Lucas, and Mark Constantine OBE, the co-founder of cosmetics company Lush.

Donations were for her General Election campaign.

Ms Lucas received other single donations of £40,000 and £44,036.08.

Mr Ward received £5,401.43 in donations.

The current basic annual salary for an MP is £91,346.
