Passengers faced disruption to rail services after a person was hit by a train.

Southern Railway reported the incident between Chichester and Havant on the West Coastway at around 10.30am.

All lines were blocked while emergency services carried out their work.

Trains were cancelled, delayed or revised.

A spokesman for Govia Thameslink Railway, the operator in charge of Southern services said: "If you've been affected by what happened on the network today, there is always someone to talk to. You can contact the Samaritans on 116 123 from any phone for a confidential chat."

Journeys for passengers between Chichester and Havant took at least 60 minutes longer than usual, with some needing to use an alternative route to reach their destination.

Train services were amended as follows:

  • Trains which ran between Barnham and Bognor Regis were suspended.
  • Trains which would usually run between Brighton and Portsmouth & Southsea instead ran between Brighton and Bognor Regis or Chichester.
  • Trains which run between London Victoria and Bognor Regis /Portsmouth Harbour via Horsham only ran between London Victoria and Bognor Regis.
  • Trains between London Victoria and Brighton, Littlehampton and Chichester, and between Brighton and West Worthing ran as booked but were likely to be subject to delays.
