An exhibition of a historic printmaker’s work will be displayed in a seaside town for over a month.

Robert Tavener Shape Pattern Colour: The Art of Printmaking will be at Towner Eastbourne running from September 19 until November 3.

The exhibition brings works that span the career of the artist. It brings a range of lithographs, linocuts and illustrations drawn from the collections held by Towner and the Emma Mason gallery.

Admission to the exhibition is free, visit here for more information: https://townereastbourne.org.uk/whats-on/exhibitions/robert-tavener

The printmaker was inspired by his surroundings in London and Kent where he lived and worked in his early career. Down the line Robert moved to Eastbourne where he lived for the rest of his life.

Tavener was appointed Head of Printmaking at Eastbourne College of Art, at the same time producing illustrations for children's books and completing commissions for London Transport, Shell, the BBC, and the Radio Times.

In 1958 he was invited to illustrate for the Kynoch Press, following in the footsteps of fellow Eastbourne artist Eric Ravilious.

Taveners' prints are varied, bold and colourful, a personal interpretation of the landscape and architecture through shape, pattern, texture and design.
