A house fire triggered a large emergency services response.

Firefighters from Crawley, Horsham, Storrington, Worthing and East Grinstead attended the incident in Creasys Drive, Crawley, yesterday afternoon.

Sussex Police were also at the scene.

People were advised to avoid the area as firefighters tackled the blaze, which was brought under control after several hours.

Firefighters returned this morning to carry out an inspection.

A spokesman for West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said: “At 3.16pm on Saturday, September 14, we were called to a domestic property fire at Creasys Drive, Broadfield, Crawley.

“Joint fire control mobilised six fire engines – two from Crawley, and one from Horsham, Storrington, Worthing and East Grinstead. Firefighters wore breathing apparatus and used two jets, two high-pressure hose reels and an aerial platform ladder.

“The crews left the scene at 8.05pm Saturday and will be returning to the scene this morning to carry out a follow-up inspection and to ensure that all hot spots are fully extinguished. Please avoid the area where possible to allow our crews to work safely.”
