Two Sussex routes have been named the best autumnal pub walks in England.

A 12.7km trek taking in the Seven Sisters and Friston Forest was named the best walk in England for autumn based on its accessibility and how suitable it is for families.

The list, created by outdoor brand Millets, lauded the route for its scenic views.

A Millets spokeswoman said: “This 12.7km walk takes visitors past a series of chalk cliffs.

“The route varies between cliffside views and forest trails and ramblers can visit a National Trust cafe along the way. For those fancying a pub lunch, you can also visit The Tiger Inn in East Dean, or The Cuckmere Inn in Exceat.”

Second on the list was another walk in the same area – a hike from Seaford to Eastbourne on the South Downs National Park.

The 21km hike is “somewhat challenging” but walkers are rewarded with views of “brilliant white cliffs, a carpet of green grass and stunning sights of the English Channel”.

“The walk takes you past beaches where you can swim, as well as past lighthouses and into Cuckmere Haven,” the Millets spokesman said.

The trail starts in the centre of Seaford where there are many pubs including the Old Plough.

Millets used data from AllTrails.com, a website which provides trail maps and reviews from walkers and chose walks with the highest number of positive reviews.
