An ice rink will not return to a city, it has been announced.

Chichester District Council has allocated funding for nine days of Christmas events at The Guildhall in Priory Park.

The schedule includes arts and crafts, musical performances and silent discos, as well as a short pantomime written and produced by two local actors.

However, the council hoped an ice rink would return to Priory Park, which was last situated there in 2018, after it was included in its project proposals for the year ahead.

It has now been confirmed that the ice rink will not return to the park this festive season due to costs, the council has said.

Councillor Adrian Moss, leader of Chichester District Council, said: “We were disappointed not to be able to deliver the ice rink because of the cost, but we were really determined to put together an alternative programme of events in order to help support the high street during the festive period and to give residents across the district and visitors something to look forward to in the city centre.”

The council is also hoping to bring a vintage fairground ride to the park and a tree.

The city will welcome a Christmas market between December 7 and 15.
