A man said he was amazed after discovering a rare “double banana” in his weekly shop.
Terry Hicks was shopping at Aldi when he discovered the rare mutated fruit at the checkout.
After ensuring he did not have to pay double for the banana, Terry said he was shocked to see the fruit – and even sent a photo of it to his sister.
Terry, 52, said: “You always hear about things like this but you never expect it to happen to you.
“I couldn’t believe it, it was amazing.”
Terry, from Woodingdean, was shopping in the Aldi in Brooks Street in Lewes on Tuesday when he noticed the double banana in his shopping trolley.
After spotting the exotic fruit, Terry called over a staff member to check how much he had to pay as he “didn’t want to get done for stealing” but was assured that he only needed to pay for one banana.

He later showed off the fruit to his sister, Shalon, who he said, “thought it was a fake photograph”.
On eating the banana, Terry said he tackled the task by peeling the banana fully and separating the two fruits before eating them each separately.
Around five per cent of bananas are thought to grow into double bananas but most are discarded before they can hit the supermarket shelves.
In extremely rare cases four fingers have been known to grow in a single skin.
Bananas are technically berries and the plant is considered a large herb due to the nature of its trunk.
