A busy bus route will now go all the way to Eastbourne outside peak time after customers asked for the change.

The Regency bus route 28 from Brighton to Hailsham, and Eastbourne in peak time, will now run to Eastbourne in the mornings, evenings and on Sundays and public holidays instead of just during the day.

It comes after previous changes laid out in the East Sussex Bus Improvement Plan, made in conjunction with the county council and Department for Transport.

This means Eastbourne will now be connected with Hailsham, Hellingly, Laughton, Falmer and Lewes throughout the week at no further cost to the taxpayer.

Nick Hill, commercial director at Brighton and Hove Buses, said: “We’re extremely pleased to introduce these improvements to our popular Regency route 28.

"The improved operating periods serving Eastbourne will provide even more connections for passengers across our network.”

It comes as part of a raft of changes to the operator's September timetable, including new timings for several routes - including the 22, 23, 25, N25, 29, 29A, 29B, 29X, 48, 59A, 72, 72A, 74, 75, 76, 76A, 77, 78, 79, 91, 93, 94, 94A, 95, 95A, 96 and 98.
