A body found near the private beach in front of a row of luxury celebrity homes has been identified.

The man's body was found on Tuesday afternoon on the beach near Western Esplanade in Hove.

Emergency services swarmed the area off Basin Road South, near Millionaires' Row where Fatboy Slim lives and where Sir Paul McCartney had a home when he was married to Heather Mills.

Police said the man was found by members of the public at the private beach just before 4pm on Tuesday.

A spokesman for Sussex Police today said the body has been identified as a 53-year-old local man.

He said: "Police were called after a body of a man was found by members of the public off the shore of Western Esplanade, Hove, shortly before 4pm on Tuesday, September 3.

"Sadly, a 53-year-old man from Portslade was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been informed."

Police said there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.
