Commuters planning trips across the city will find it easier to get where they want after changes to a bus company's smartphone app.

Services operated by The Big Lemon and Compass now also appear on Brighton and Hove Buses' mobile app in a bid to help its passengers get from A to B regardless of the company.

Commercial director at Brighton and Hove Buses Nick Hill said: "Over the years we have shared other operators' timetables and maps in print and are pleased to advise that the whole route timetables, bus stop departures and digital maps of Compass and Big Lemon services are now live on our website and app for their services in the city."

The council said the change shows its Enhanced Bus Partnership in action - which it set up with bus operators to benefit people using their services.

The Big Lemon and Compass run some of the council-funded routes in Brighton, such as the 37 and 16.

Councillor Trevor Muten, who chairs meetings of the local Enhanced Bus Partnership, said: “This is a great development and really emphasises the connectedness of the city’s bus network.

“It was a decision taken voluntarily by Brighton and Hove Buses and will be really helpful to people using public transport in our city.

“We know people often use routes run by different providers at different stages of their journeys, so having this real-time information available in one place is fantastic."

The information was previously only shared on paper timetables but this change means that the majority of passengers, who use the mobile app, can find out when their next bus will be in one place - instead of using another site like Google Maps.

Cllr Muten added: "All our local bus operators are part of the local Enhanced Bus Partnership, which also includes Brighton Area Buswatch, a charity campaigning for local bus users, and this move from Brighton & Hove Buses is a great example of organisations working together for the benefit of passengers.”
