Firefighters battled a huge blaze at a block of flats through the night.
Crews from Worthing, Littlehampton, Lancing, Easton Preston as well as East Sussex attended the incident at The Waterfront, Goring, from just before 2am.
Residents were advised to keep windows and doors closed due to smoke and people were told to avoid the area.
An update from West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service at 8.21am said one fire engine now remains at the scene damping down the building.
