Two teenagers in balaclavas have been arrested on suspicion of stealing a motorbike.

Police in Eastbourne were called to reports of two boys acting suspiciously and riding a motorcycle in the town on Thursday.

Officers attended the area where the boys and the motorbike were spotted but the teenagers fled the scene.

Sussex Police said the two boys in balaclavas were found after an area search.

They were detained and arrested on suspicion of theft of motor vehicle and going equipped for theft.

Both were bailed with strict conditions pending further investigations.

Police said the motorbike was found nearby on Thursday evening.

The town has been hit with a spate of motorbike thefts over the last month.

Chief Inspector Andy Nicklin said: “These arrests show our continued determination to catch offenders linked to motorcycle thefts.

“We know the impact it has for victims and in our communities and we continue to encourage anyone affected by vehicle thefts, or with information about thefts and abandoned vehicles, to report it to Sussex Police online or on 101, quoting Operation Portman."
