New flats will be built on empty land near a petrol station.

Plans have been approved by Brighton and Hove City Council for a two-storey building in Lewes Road, Brighton.

It will house three flats including one in the basement.

The homes will have open-plan living and dining room areas and balconies.

An outdoor courtyard will be shared between the residents of the three flats, which will each have their own private entrances.

Pump House Designs, on behalf of P and Y Austin Investments Ltd, said the site will have secure storage for bicycles and bins, however there will be no car parking.

In a bid to be environmentally friendly, P and Y Austin Investments said the building will incorporate hidden solar panels on the main flat roof to generate energy.
