Two church buildings are set to be demolished and replaced with housing.

Gowing Developments has been given permission from Rother District Council to demolish the two deteriorating church hall structures in Southlands Road, Bexhill, and replace the site with homes.

According to the plans, the nine homes will include four two-bed houses, four three-bed houses and one three-bed bungalow.

These will each have front and rear gardens along with private parking spaces.

The homes will also have bike storage facilities.

HAPA Architects, on behalf of the applicant, said: "The proposal is carefully designed in form and material to complement and enhance the surrounding built and natural environment.

"The site is in a sustainable location and provides nine new, good family homes for the council’s housing needs.

"It is designed with high-quality materials and finishes that complement and enhance the existing street scene. The siting of the new houses has taken into account the positioning of adjacent dwellings and ensures that the proposal would not result in any loss of amenity to occupants of adjoining properties.

"This is a sustainable small-scale residential development that creates healthy family homes in a considerate way."
