I give in this way of ordering food works really well

It certainly did not disappoint.

If you’ve not been before the huge venue right on Brighton Seafront is at the bottom of West Street.

It has a big food hall with outlets dotted around the edge and loads more seating outside next to the beach and upstairs, which also has lovely views of the beach with more balcony seating.

With a ridiculous number of covers, service would be a challenge, you’d think.

But again, if you haven’t been, it has this relatively modern concept of ordering via your phone from the range of outlets.

I love table service and absolutely hate having to queue to order food with a passion. I feel it takes away from the experience. Why go out to queue up like you have been sent to prison and are at the canteen? It’s supposed to be a treat or at least a pleasurable experience.

So I was sceptical about this new process too. I may have questions, how do I like it cooked? What is in this dish? That kind of thing.

Well the good news is there are lots of staff available to talk to too. About allergens, for example. I took advantage of the process to order drinks first, great to have an aperitif before the food arrives. Then I ordered the food. The risk is that with different outlets the food can come at different times, but every time I’ve been all the food has come out super quick, pretty much together.

The setting lends itself to a really relaxing experience and atmosphere. There are big long tables with large groups enjoying themselves. Feels like a German beer hall maybe. Jovial.

For drinks I only really studied the beer options, of which there are loads.

Good lagers like Peroni Nastro Azzuro and a strong selection of IPA.

The Unbarred Brewery's Joosy Pale is really refreshing and tasty, as is the Gun Brewery on tap.

There’s also ciders, cocktails, champagne etc. Lots of soft drink options too.

The food outlets include Yeastie Boys Pizza Club. Great name. There pizzas are a sure shot (song by the Beastie Boys).

We tried the children’s Margherita and it was really good.

They have such cool pizza names; No Sleep Til Brooklyn, Flaming Lips, and No Meat Til Brooklyn (vegetarian).

I had my sights on the Coqfighter outlet after spying someone with their Korean barbecue wings.

They were nice and sticky and spicy as hoped.

Then it was Little Bao Boy.

Their chilli salted tofu bao buns were tasty, not too overly spicy. I really enjoyed them. It was a great choice. The buns go down so easy.

Their tofu rice bowl was really good too. It tasted healthy.

I am told Crudo Mexican’s cochinita pibil pork tacos are amazing.

The menu states they have “slow roasted pork shoulder in an aromatic citrus smoky marinade, pickled shallots, crumbled chicharrónes and spicy charred pepper salsa”.

We were all full.

I may have to return to try The 3 Little Pigs Souvlaki, Rudi’s Burgers, and the Happy Endings desserts.

It was pretty full and absolutely buzzing while we were there. Small queues built up outside but they find you a table quickly due to the nature of it.

It’s fast but great food if you want it quickly. Or whatever pace you want to take. They ask you where you want to sit too.

Shelter Hall remains an excellent addition to Brighton seafront as part of a really vibrant area with bars, music and the beach. It adds to and feels a huge part of that area.
