A circus performer fell from a height during a show.

Gravity Circus has shared that one of their tightrope performers was involved in an accident during last night’s show in Glyne Gap Field, Bexhill.

One woman, who is a nurse, attended the show with her children and assisted the performer after she fell.

She said: “It was a horrible thing to see. It could have been much worse.”

South East Coast Ambulance Service were called to the scene at 4.45pm to reports that a person had fallen from height.

A spokeswoman for Secamb said: “An ambulance and a critical care paramedic attended – the Air Ambulance also attended but did not transport the patient.

“The patient, an adult female, had suffered facial and other injuries consistent with a fall.

“She was treated at the scene and taken by ambulance to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton with serious injuries although her condition was not thought to be life-threatening.”

Guests at the performance shared comments on the Gravity Circus Facebook with well wishes for the performer.

One of them wrote: “Sending well wishes to the talented lady after her accident and to the entire Gravity family who must be feeling the shock. I was there with family and witnessed the fall, hoping to hear good news.

“Fantastic show, thank you, and well done to you all for staying so calm.”

A spokeswoman for the circus said: “In live entertainment and high-risk performances, accidents can unfortunately happen despite stringent safety measures.

“Our emergency protocols were immediately enacted, and the performer was promptly taken to the hospital.

“Our primary concern is the well-being of the performer, their family, the high wire troupe, and our entire circus family. We are closely monitoring the situation and conducting a thorough investigation.

“The entire circus is deeply touched by the outpouring of support, love, and care shown by our customers and supporters during this difficult time.”
