People are delighted after a pothole-ridden road is finally being fixed.

Kingston Lane in Shoreham has been a bane on motorists' lives for years, with the road blamed for a series of near-miss accidents.

After receiving a number of complaints, West Sussex County Council has now taken action, with the road closed on Monday for this resurfacing work.

It is set to be closed for four days between Cross Road and Ashcroft Close.

A diversion is in place and street parking is currently suspended.

West Sussex County Council informed residents of these impending works through a letter.

Several residents said it is "about time" the work was done, with the road being dubbed as dangerous by many people living in the area.

One person added on social media: "It's a terrible road, great big holes in it everywhere."

Another person said: "Worst road in Shoreham, I try to avoid it the best I can."

Earlier this year, a string of complaints were made concerning the safety of children, with the road's worst potholes right outside the Shoreham Academy entrance.

The then MP for Adur and Worthing, Tim Loughton, said he was contacted by a number of parents who were concerned about the safety of students.

Some people claimed that the potholes had caused near-miss accidents.

Mr Loughton, who complained about the potholes to the county council, said: "Some parents came to see me the other day because when cars have their headlights on, they bounce up and down (on the potholes) and people think they are flashing their lights to let them go when they're not, so we've had some near-miss accidents.

"The state of the potholes here is really bad so I've messaged the county council about it."

The work is expected to be finished by Friday, with highway teams at the site from 9.30am until 4.30pm each day.

The resurfacing comes after the southern end of Kingston Lane had its potholes repaired last month.
