A mother and daughter said they were “really excited” to both compete at the street dance world championships.

Megan and Andria Allan both headed to the Winter Gardens in Blackpool to compete after rehearsing for hours every evening to perfect their routines.

The pair were both able to get onto the stage and compete with their separate crews – despite Andria suffering a knee injury just months before the competition.

Andria, who runs her own Brighton-based public relations firm Andria Allan PR, said: “As a parent and a daughter we were both really excited that we could do this together.

“We were rehearsing every single night. I wanted to be on that stage even if they had to carry me.

“As far as I’m concerned I performed the same way as I would have done without the injury. I’m so pleased and relieved that I was able to do it.

“We all came together as a group and as a family.

“No one ever thinks that 40 and 50-year-old woman can breakdance like that – but they can!”

Megan, who has been street dancing since she was nine, returned to breakdancing as she balanced performing and competing with A Levels.

She competed individually and with her street dancing crew, KOD, while Andria competed with her crew made up of parents, Mums Da Word.

Andria helped to reform the group after the Covid-19 pandemic but tore one ligament in her knee, sprained two more and suffered bone bruising in a skiing accident just four months before the competition.

Megan said: “I was nine the last time I went to the world championships. I knew that balancing studying and dancing would be hard but I just had to juggle it and I’m so glad that I did it.

“We [Megan and Andria] are always in costume together. A couple of other dancers have parents dancing in the crew so there’s a family feel to it. It’s good to see my mum dance.”
